TRIAL CLASSBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu, also called the "gentle art", is originally from India and Japan and has the same origins as judo. In Brazil, the Gracie family has developed the BJJ and given it its present form. The emphasis in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the ground combat, are trained mainly holding and strangling grips, arm and leg levers but also take-downs and sweeps and the Guard Passing, so bypassing the opposing defensive posture.
Through many competitions, "Vale Tudo" events and in particular the achievements of BJJ athletes in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) battles, BJJ has gained worldwide fame today. In fact, the most famous MMA event, the Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC, was founded by the Gracie family (Founders of BJJ) to show the world the superiority of their fighting technique.
Royce Gracie did this by defeating many physically superior opponents. Between 1993 and 1994 he won the tournaments UFC 1, UFC 2 and UFC 4, in addition to numerous other victories in other competition organizations.
